America’s most famous hockey gets booed when she stepped on the ice?
Palin made a campaign stop in Philadelphia on Saturday to drop the first puck of the season in a game between the Philadelphia Flyer’s and the New York Rangers.
Upon entering the ice Palin got a very mixed response from the Philadelphia fans. Videos of the puck dropping ceremony have been circulating on the net along with a rumor that the crowd was booing. Depending on which video you watch the crowd sounds is different. The video shot by the television cameras seem to have a mixed crowd reaction, other videos have sounds that portray strong booing.
Alaskan native Scott Gomez who plays for the Rangers was excited to see Palin at the game and shook her hand on the ice.
“Politics aside, as far as someone coming from the home state, in the position she’s in, as a fellow Alaskan, yeah, you’re proud,” Gomez said.
Flyers owner Ed Snider invited palin to Philadelphia for the puck drop. This caused comments from critics who say that since taxpayers pay for the arena the Flyers should avoid any partisan stances. Owner Ed Snider is a Republican who has donated money to presidential nominee John McCain’s campaign.
“As a proud hockey mom and an avid NHL fan, I was thrilled to be here,” Palin said. “I enjoyed joining the Philadelphia Flyers to drop the puck at tonight’s game. I wish them the best of luck this season.”
