RNC Speech

September 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

On Sept. 3rd 2008 Alaska Governor Sara Palin accepted the 2008 vice presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota. Never before has Palin given a speech in front of such a large national audience, yet she remained comfortable and focused.

The thirty minute speech started with her admiration for Senator John MacCain’s military service and senate record and her proud support of the troops in Iraq.

Governor Palin emphasized her home town appeal by referencing how she was a hockey mom and a caring mother. She introduced her family, her oldest son who is serving in the military, three daughters, and her youngest infant son who suffers from down syndrome. She also introduced her husband Todd, a lifelong fisherman, oil worker and snow machine racer.

She assaulted Obama with witty and sarcastic remarks regarding his lack of military service and plans his plans for high government spending.

To those who have criticized her qualifications Palin made clear that she was going to Washington for the people and not for special interest. “if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone” she said, “ But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country”. The speech was a great way for the MacCain Campaign to finally introduce Palin as a qualified running mate, not because she has experience but because she here for the people.

Some concerns have risen from the Republican Party which has constantly defended criticisms that Palin is under qualified for the position of vise president. This speech defiantly took the pressure off with style roaring applauds.
